Listopad had a girls’ night out at Red Derby recently and we enjoyed the following: a.) the non-stupid crowd, b.) our nice waitress and the snacks she brought us, and c.) the $2 Schlitz. Celebrate Mardi Gras with these fine folks on Tuesday. We hear there will be king cake. Warm up there and then head to DC9 for Tigercity.

Wednesday, the Brazilian classic Black Orpheus screens at the Anacostia Community Museum; Tom Jones does his thang at the 9:30 Club. If you have not heard this man's cover of "Kiss," you are missing out.

K'NAAN is a hip-hop artist who grew up in Mogadishu. Hear him rap about his intense childhood and his dedication to bringing awareness to the Somali cause at the Kennedy Center on Friday.

Saturday, the National Museum of African Art hosts a screening of Kirikou and the Sorceress, and animated movie about a tiny boy who gives birth to himself then saves the village from the curse of Karaba and her army of minions, the Fetishes.

Monday, there is a Western-Europe film bonanza (ok - two movies) as The Mask of Desire (Die Braut) screens at the Goethe-Institut and La Vie d'artiste shows at the Alliance Francaise.

Wednesday, DJs Johnny Metro and Radel Esca spin all hip-hop from all eras at the Galaxy Hut (2711 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA) from 9 - 12 pm.

Friday, Face Accidents (from DC-ish!), Box Elders (from Omaha!), and the Calm Blue Sea (from Austin!) play the Velvet Lounge.

Saturday is the last day of the mixed-media triumvirate of Family (Zoe Charlton), War (David Levinthal) and Video (Gabriel de la Mora) at Conner Contemporary Art.

Wednesday, A Disenchanted Playroom opens at the Goethe-Institut. Artist Wolfram Hahn photographed little kids watching TV. I'm already crying.

Thursday is the final day of The World of Art Bead, a exhibit of beadwork by Miho Kanaya at the Japanese Embassy.

Friday is the opening night of Photos to Develop at the Jerusalem Fund. Fulbright scholar Natasha Hall organized the exhibit, which features photography by Bedouin children living in Jordan.

On Thursday, to kick off their European Union Film Showcase, the AFI will screen Il y a longtemps que je t'aime, Phillippe Claudel's new film about a woman released from prison after 15 years of incarceration.

The Hirshhorn After Hours party is always A Time, but Friday's looks like it will be extra-cragee: Dan Deacon is scheduled to wreck things (your ears, your soul, possibly property?) - plus, the show that just went up promises to be illuminating.

Monday, catch Local Color: Washington Painting at Midcentury before it closes at the American Art Museum.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts gives me heart palpitations yet again with Role Models: Feminine Identity in Contemporary American Photography, which opens on Friday. Mary Ellen Mark! Cindy Sherman! Nan Goldin! Oh my.

Regime Change Starts at Home, a group show featuring Shepard Fairey, Al Farrow, and Paul D. Miller opens on Saturday at Irvine Contemporary.

Sunday brings yet another opening! Can you stand it? Yes. Beadazzled: 5,000 Years of Jewelry arrives at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.

Y'all, this is going to be a weekend-heavy edition of Get To It because there is like, an orgy of stuff going on. (Get your mind out of the gutter, folks. There is no actual orgy.)

Thursday is the first day of the DC Shorts Film Festival. Our attention span, having been destroyed by too much Internet, is excited. (We recommend LOL titles like The Art of Stalking and Back to the Fuschia.) In addition, Baltimortals Thank You play DC9. (Go to Etete before the show. You will thank me!)

Just try and decide what to do on Saturday. I dare you! You could watch the opening performance of the Washington National Opera's 53rd season broadcast live and for free at Nationals Park, or you could go to the Kennedy Center's Open House Arts Festival, a swirling gyre of amazing performances that marks the hallowed center's 37th birthday. (A performance by Chuck Brown closes the festivites. Do not sleep.) All of this is possible provided you're not too exhausted from going to the opening of Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power at the Corcoran.

Sunday is Adams Morgan Day Festival! Imagine the madness of Adams Morgan on a Friday night. Now multiply that by families, food stands, and craft vendors! Can you stand it?!?! No, seriously, it's pretty fun.

Feel garden-y on Monday. Johnson's Florist and Garden Center is having a Labor Day Yard Sale! Big ol' markdowns on a bunch of stuff. (Can someone pick up a huge pot for me? I have to re-pot Planty, my Ikea plant. Thanks.)

This looks so so cool: An Iconography of Contagion will showcase health posters from the 20th century. Opens at The National Academy of Sciences on Tuesday. Plus: it's First Tuesday in Adams Morgan. Discounts abound at neighborhood shops/restos.

Friday, I am going to see The House Bunny. Dana Stevens says: "I don't even want to think about what [this film] means as a feminist allegory." Haha, me neither!

Saturday, head over the Bethesda Design Within Reach for Wine and Design, a lil' event commencing their Seating and Dining Sale. Enjoy wine, snacks, one-time discounts. And design. (Within reach.)

Sunday is the last day of Diebenkorn in New Mexico at The Phillips Collection. Do not sleep on the rich visual musings of this nuclear-ly awesome artist. Please. Or: the Kreeger Museum is having an open house today. This event is free! Bring the kiddies!

Monday: Crystal City is apparently doing a season-long James Bond film festival for free! Tonight, 8pm, you can catch Goldeneye--pretty meh for the movie but I loved Tina Turner's theme song.

Tuesday: OMG Cuteness! The Panda habitat is re-opening after its massive renovations at the National Zoo. Go before work to warm your heart, they open at 6am.

Thursday: Modernist Society hosts Whitney Matheson at Bourbon, 9pm

Friday: Massive party at 9:30 club for local DJ superstar Tittsworth's album release! All the hotties will be there, I promise.
