I have been keeping tabs in this delightful little monstrosity (and I mean that in the best possible way!) since it appeared in Lucky months and months ago. It stood out from the endless parade of buyable things that the magazine crams into every issue, and it has stayed in my heart ever since. Now I see that this jacket, having been a little too real for everyone, has gone on sale - which further cements my belief that it and I were meant to be together.



It's called the Dread Jacket, dudes. How delightfully twisted is that? Literally and figuratively?

Update! On a hunch, I did some digging - it was actually this cardigan that appeared in Lucky. Still amazing! Still creepy! Still desirable!

Home Work

I loved this piece on the Rodarte sisters from NYT Magazine. Their ethereal aesthetic really comes through from the interview, not to mention the great slideshow. Also, the bonds of femininity and sisterhood really inform the business side of their art, a wonderful alternative to the fierce corporate ways of other designers (ahem, Marc Jacobs).

The Post killed it with their style coverage this weekend. Two eloquent pieces by Robin Givhan, about famous bling ("emblematic of hip-hop's often ruthless crusade for success") and first ladies' steez ("so obviously interesting"), along with a healthy serving of Ms. Spinach in the magazine.

Sorry for the cheese-y title, I couldn't help myself. So, Keep is an awesome, woman-run, sweatshop-free, company whose shoes I love. Now they are going to be making clothes. So awesome!

Wearing History

Summer's not over yet! You can still justify more hot weather shoes ;) These espadrilles have been perfected over 70 years, and the colors get better and better. They even have a wikipedia page, so you know they are serious. Available online.

Acne Sale

The Stockholm-based company ACNE ("Ambition to Create Novel Expressions") Jeans is having a summer sale. Their jeans make you look lean and long but we really appreciate their overall simple, classic forms that are tweaked to give a modern look. Can you tell we do our shopping during sale season? ;-) Oh yeah, and why can't a guy adopt the ballet slipper look?

My grandmother's neighbor once tried to teach me how to crochet in the style of the iPod above but I didn't catch on too easily, though I still wish I was more versed in the craft traditions of the Mediterrenean.

Surface 2 Air

Design collective Surface 2 Air has begun peddling women's clothing, expanding their reach into fashion some more. The ads they did for Tsumori Chisato rocked my world and the were also responsible for the music video for that song you couldn't escape last year--in short, they know what they are doing design-wise. Their men's line is available at the Barney's Co-op in Georgetown, who knows if we will ever see the women's stuff in DC.

While I thought Princess Tina was doing only cute jewelry and the occasional hoodie, lo and behold, she's got a whole line going! I love the school-girl feel of these outfits, especially the knee socks. It's a bit Built by Wendy, (which makes sense, as BBW sells some Princess Tina bits), but more solid and more mixable with things you already have in your closet. Now, where can I get these pieces???

Shoes for your sox

I kinda wish I had found these at the beginning of the summer, but I think you can still rock them into the colder months (I'm thinking knee-highs and ribbed tights). I've been searching for some Dr. Scholl's Health sandals that old ladies wear to the grocery store...Trippen's Modern Wood collection is like the barely legal hottie version of it.

The company itself is pretty cool...they're dutch and use a majority of vegetable-tanned leathers (elk, buffalo and some other crazy materials) and only fair labor. They even have pics of the craftspeople on their website!

Sox

It's almost that time for people to put away the flip flops (at least I hope they will) and start wearing proper footwear. This morning I thought I smelled autumn in the air, but maybe I was lying to myself. Still, better get a head start on your sock game, as socks and tights with t-strap shoes, peep toes and heels are all perfectly acceptable ways to transition to the fall.
