Top Serious Warmth

Guys. How the hell am I supposed to look cute at tonight's Inaugural Freak-fest when it is twelve degrees outside?

Perhaps this chunky, ADD-colored 80s Missoni sweater-jacket?

A tawny cable knit dress that will go with anything, from ankle-cut cowboy boots to piles of gold jewelry to a jaunty bowler?

This cheeky, cleverly cut wool jacquard suit from Cacharel?

Ok, I just wanted to look at clothes. But seriously, come to the party tonight! It will be inaugu-tastic.

Power of Purple

(Ossie Clark, style.com)

(viviencheng)

(Anna Sui, style.com)

There is something about purple that evokes cool luxury and feminity. We think Art Nouveau, peacocks, how lovely it looks with oranges and yellows, tea parlors... The shades in Ossie Clark's resurrected Spring '09 line popped out at us, as did Vivien Cheng's amazing line of revamped vintage purses. And in terms of being all these luxe things, yet 60's and rock and roll, we bow down to Ossie-appreciater Anna Sui's collection for Fall. We love taking old things and making them new again.

Fandes

Hi guys. I started school on Monday!

(American Rhetoric.)

I am taking this really awesome class: the Anthropology of Food. Today, we discussed Andean farming traditions: how they've been in practice for thousands of years with no detriment to the soil or slackening in crop yields. These dudes have literally found the perfect way to farm!

(Ilhuicamina.)

They have also found the perfect way to dress!

(quintet.)

(Walking the Amazon.)

Note: sweet headgear, 50-inspired circle skirts, jewel tones, long braids, and baby-as-accessory. Listopad approves!

Brazilian footwear label Melissa commissioned Pritzker Prize winning architect Zaha Hadid to design a serious pair of shoes.

And I mean serious.

AGH! These are so cool.

Love Letters

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend Listopad your ears. We're plotting a new feature that we're really excited about.

We're obsessed with all things vintage and secondhand. This should be obvious by now. We shop a lot and we find a lot of beautiful things, both for ourselves and for our shopping parties. We're assuming that if you read this blog, it's because you like shopping for beautiful things, too, and you freak out as much as we do when you come across them. We're shoppers that appreciate the challenge of finding genuinely cool and interesting things in an economy where cookie-cutter looks are served to the masses, and we want to celebrate the fact that individuality is accessible—if you know where to look.

We know that you guys know where to look, and we know how exciting it is when you find something really unique. Why not use us a platform to shout it to the world? We want to see what our readers are finding. The next you're at a thrift store, flea market, vintage shop, or consignment boutique, and you find something—an item of clothing, a weird little tchotchke, a full set of La Fonda del Sol Bandas Goblets, anything—take a pic and send it to us along with a description of the item. Tell us where you found it, why it caught your eye, how it's going to change your life, or any other information that you feel is pertinent. Send us your love letters, kids! We love hearing from you!

Tsuyumi Panama Hat from Bird with knit baubles! This would look real swell on top of a vintage jumper.

Narrative baubles

Kali Arulpragasam's Superfertile line of elaborate, artisanal, and illustrative jewelry is fucking tops. Meticulous constructed and eye-poppingly beautiful, the pieces also raise probing questions about international society, poverty, and war.

Glad Fan

Guys. Guysguysguys. After seeing a mention in WWD -- the full article is unavailable to subscribers, sadly -- I was reminded that I had not recently checked on the status of a cherished vintage piece: Mad Men! Looks like the second season will start in July.

The Island of Kawaii

(photos from Unica.com)

Japanese artists like Murakami have knack for pervading pop culture with cute and desirable things that grown women, like me, go apeshit for. What Shinzi Katoh has done for Sigg water bottles and tote bags is not just cute stuff, this is saccharine goodness - This. Is. KAWAII. But in the best way. Indeed, I consider this a mature step up from bright red Hello Kitty notepads and shower curtains, not that I will ever seriously give up on any of that (much to my boyfriend's dissapointment). Also, I will point out, his use of English is totally (pretty much) understandable. You can purchase Katoh items at Unica but his online catalog is much much more vast and is probably worth shipping overseas. I am so overcome with kawaii, I cannot deal.

Object Lust: Carrie Bicycle Basket

I love the multi-functionality of this basket by Design House Stokholm available (also in lime and black) at Relish. You can hook it up to your bike and the strap doubles it as a purse. Most importantly, it is pretty - the designer was inspired by her Swedish grandmother's crocheting. Sweet!

Do I only love this because it's a vintage knock-off? Do I love or hate the idea of vintage knock-offs? Why does buying at American Apparel cause all sorts of moral quandries?
